Better Holiday Videos

Less is always more!

This weeks Optimistic Monday is a quick video on how to make your family holiday videos a little more interesting for your family and friends to watch then your making them sit through it when you get back!

5…4…3….2…1!

When filming scenic views on your family holiday, press record and count to 5 and then press stop… its as simple as that.  Then, when your back home, and watching it with the family, the video you have put together is really engaging and interesting to watch.

Im “On the Road” as of tomorrow for 9 nights, filming some Caravan Parks up and down the west side of the UK.

This vid also covers the reason’s why my last Optimistic Monday disappeared as well….

Have you ever been kissed on the eye?

Im not even sure I will post this.. but i wanted to type somewhere what i feel about the film “Avatar”

The reason why im typing this is what happens right at the very end of the film…. She kisses her hero on his eyes… and that to me says it all… Have you ever been kissed on the eye? If you havent, let me tell you, its the most amazing feeling.. and that just about sums up what I feel about the Film Avatar.

First of all, If you haven’t seen it, its probably NOT what you think its going to be like ok!

its about Love and Passion and whole load of spirituality thrown into the mix.

Perhaps it just ticks all my boxes for an amazing film, im not sure.. but I have just seen it again on DVD and it moved me as much as it did when i saw it in the Cinema. I didnt think it would.. but thankfully I was proven wrong.

Yes, there are amazing creatures, yes, there is war, and fighting and a silly idea that native people can overcome the might of a military force….so what!  thats just the script.. the essense of the film what makes it breath taking to me.

If women can get swept away by Pride and Prejudice then I can be swept away by this.

Its emotional, its techie, its full of amazing animals and its full of love and amazing huge eyes!!

I love it.. and im sure it will be one of my favourite films of all time….

Thank you Mr Cameron.

a website inside a video..

..Not a video in a website!

(Sorry for the auto play! something I normally don’t support but cant seem to take this out of the code)

Thats the new marketing message from Veeple, an American based “Interactive Video” platform that I have been keeping my eye on for some time now, and I must say im very impressed by it. With more and more people accessing the Internet from mobile devices, this really is an efficient way of using video on a small screen, and making it the most effective with tracking stats.
No go for iphone yet

One of the biggest gripes of the most popular mobile device - The iphone is that they cannot play “flash video” apart from You tube videos. Im sure with the emergence of the HTML 5 video player, which does at least allow the ipad to stream videos from websites this will just be a slight hiccup in the overall “switch” to non keyboard, non mouse video interactivity as shown in the video above.
Please add your thoughts, views and comments below as usual, but if this kind of “Interactive video” idea really does get you excited and  you want to use it in your web marketing, then get in touch via email or phone and lets sort something out! I’m getting to get involved in a project for this platform!

Steadi-Cam Shoot

I recently worked with Olly Lawer (seen left) who runs an online video production company called opl productions over in Norwich.  He asked me to be his “production assistant” for the day, helping with client communication, and supporting him and another camera operator as they both worked on a “web video” shoot for one of his clients.

I was totally in my element, with 2 amazing cameras, and two focused but relaxed guys who loved their work.

David Crute

Using the power of Google, Olly hired the talents of David Crute (above) with his amazing Steadi cam rig. With 20 years experience in broadcast filming, including large film productions, pop videos and tv adverts, it was really great to work with a seasoned pro, who was very friendly, very focused and just loved talking about his work!

I spent most of the day “shadowing” Dave, making sure he didnt bump into things as he used his Steadi-cam rig for some lovely sweeping shots of the people in the factory hard at work. As the floor was slippery in places, and he does a lot of “walking backwards” it was important I was right behind him just incase he lost his balance.

I don’t know the make of his camera, but lets just say it was extremely expensive! To put it into perspective, his “view finder” cost more than my camera does! icon smile Steadi Cam Shoot

The great news is that we are all meeting up again next month for another day’s shoot at the same location, where perhaps even more “toys” will be used, and Dave has also promised me that I can wear the Steadi-cam rig to see what it feels like! (Im definitely going to do a video blog about that!)

I have started my own Flickr account, so if you want to see the rest of the pictures I took of this film shoot then please click on the picture below and you will be taken to the Flickr website to view them.
