I picked up a little tip last week on how to use the flip cam’s a slightly different way rather than just using a small desktop tripod, and
thats to use a “Mono pod” with it. A telescopic mono pod is very light, and combined with the small camera that allows you to screw a stabilizing facility in to it, its a great way of “opening up” your shots, or perhaps getting two people into view instead of going from one to the other.
Looks a great little gadget ! How much is it?
I Don’t think it was any more than £15 sue, I’ve seen some mono pods on sale for just £5 as well!
Its worth pointing out that you wont get a really clear picture as you would if the camera wasnt moving, because the pixels are always moving so you get that little “blocky” look to it but its ok for the web isnt it!
Well, it looked great to me !

Great tip using the monopod.
Any tips for framing the image when using one of those new HD cameras with the ‘big red button’, with a monopod?
Sorry, don’t know the name but you have been using one recently!
Thanks again for cheering us all up with your Monday vid.

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your kind comments! I really appreciate it.
The thing with this style of video creation (Video Blogging) is not to worry to much about the production values and focus your attention on the content. Keep them simple, keep them short, and then play them back and watch it.. if you make a mistake or you are out of frame.. just shoot it again, and your done! As a general rule, I just try to position the lense in line with my nose, but these things arent really built for zoom in/out (though mine can) so your not really going to be “out of frame” unless you drastically point the camera in a different direction! You can also clip off the front and the back of each clip quite easily if you dont want to record you setting up and turning “off” the red button, but I have even got to the point where I dont do that either! Your audience just want to watch the content, and are not judging you for your sharp editing skills. Obviously all this being said, these points are ONLY relevant to “video blogging” and not business video for your website in general.
Hi Phil
A great tip mono pod on my shopping list when we get the flip cam sorted….very soon I hope….
